If you’ve spent any time watching Bazi videos online, you’ve probably heard people say that Shi Shang Sheng Cai (食伤生财) means you can make money, become wealthy, or even get rich.
Shi Shang Sheng Cai. Wealth. Money. Getting rich.
People who already understand Bazi are probably tired of hearing it.
And if you don’t understand Bazi, you’re probably wondering what any of that actually means.
It sounds abstract. It feels far removed from real life.
So let me put it in plain English.
But first, there’s one important condition.
Shi Shang has to be favorable and useful in your Bazi chart for this interpretation to apply.
Let me give you a few examples.
You Loved Playing Video Games as a Kid
You spent hours playing video games when you were young.
Then you realized you could turn that interest into income.
Maybe you start livestreaming your gameplay. Maybe you become a professional gamer, coach other players, or offer paid gaming services.
Something you enjoyed doing becomes something people are willing to pay for.
You Loved Dressing Up and Looking Good
Maybe you always enjoyed putting outfits together, experimenting with makeup, or figuring out what looks good on you.
Then one day, you realize you could turn that interest into content.
You start a fashion account, become a beauty creator, or share makeup tutorials.
Eventually, brands pay you to promote their products, or your audience buys things through your recommendations.
Your personal interest becomes a way to make money.
You Learned to Smoke at School
Here’s a slightly different example.
When you were at boarding school, you learned to smoke.
Then you noticed that students living on campus couldn’t easily go out to buy cigarettes.
You saw a business opportunity and started selling cigarettes to them.
Now, I’m not recommending that you do this. I’m simply describing something one of my clients actually experienced.
The point is that you noticed something you could do, recognized what other people wanted, and found a way to make money from it.
The example is about recognizing an opportunity, not about recommending this particular business.
You Loved Reading Fiction
Maybe you spent your free time reading novels and other books.
Later, you discovered that you could write stories of your own and publish them online.
If readers enjoy your work, you may be able to earn money through paid chapters, publishing contracts, or other writing opportunities.
Something you enjoyed became something you could create value with.
You Lost Weight and Discovered Healthy Food
Maybe you started losing weight and learned how to prepare convenient, healthy meals.
You experimented with recipes, figured out how to make meals taste good, and learned what worked for your own routine.
Then you realized other people wanted the same thing.
You could start a healthy meal business, sell meal plans, or create content about convenient food for people trying to manage their weight.
Again, something you learned through your own experience could become a source of income.
So, What Does Shi Shang Sheng Cai Actually Mean?
Hopefully, you get the idea now.
In plain English, Shi Shang Sheng Cai (食伤生财) is about turning what you know how to do, what you enjoy doing, or what you create into something that can generate income.
In traditional Bazi, Shi Shang (食伤) is associated with expression, output, skills, creativity, and what a person produces.
Cai Xing (财星) represents wealth and financial resources within the Bazi system.
The phrase Shi Shang Sheng Cai describes a relationship between these two parts of the chart: Shi Shang generates or supports Cai Xing.
When this structure is favorable in a person’s overall chart, one way to interpret it is that their skills, ideas, output, or creations may become a channel for making money.
In everyday terms, you make something, do something, or offer something that other people find valuable enough to pay for.
It could be a service.
It could be a product.
It could be content, entertainment, knowledge, or a skill you’ve developed over time.
The specific form depends on the person and the opportunities available to them.
But There’s One Important Catch
Let me repeat the condition I mentioned at the beginning.
This interpretation applies when Shi Shang is favorable and useful in the overall Bazi chart.
It doesn’t mean that everyone who likes video games will get rich from gaming.
It doesn’t mean that everyone who enjoys fashion will become a successful influencer.
And it doesn’t mean that having a talent automatically leads to money.
You need more than an interest.
You need the ability to do something well enough, a way to offer it to other people, and people who are willing to pay for what you provide.
You might love something that has little commercial demand.
You might be talented but not know how to reach the right audience.
Or you might create something valuable but struggle to turn it into a sustainable business.
That’s why the Bazi concept shouldn’t be reduced to simply saying, “You have Shi Shang Sheng Cai, so you’ll be rich.”
The more useful question is how your abilities, interests, and output could connect with real opportunities to generate income.
And that’s the basic idea behind Shi Shang Sheng Cai.
You create something that other people want, and you find a way to turn that value into money.
If you want to understand how Shi Shang Sheng Cai fits into your own Bazi chart, you need to look at the chart as a whole rather than relying on one phrase alone.
